Eagle Cement Employee Volunteers celebrate Christmas with the IPs

Mar 16, 2017

The heavy rain did not stop the Eagle Cement Corporation (ECC) employees from holding the company’s 1st “Krismasaya,” a Christmas party for 300 hundred indigent children from its host communities in the towns of San Ildefonso and Dona Remedios Trinidad (DRT), last December 19 and 22, 2016.

Notably included among the beneficiaries are 71 Dumagat children studying at Sitio Bato Elementary School, DRT.

The ECC employees dressed up as Santa Claus and gave gifts, toys, books and food to the children. The children were happy to meet the Jollibee mascot and were amazed at the magic shows -- most of them for the first time. A storytelling session was also conducted by the Adarna Group Foundation where the children actively participated. “We also want the native Dumagat children and other children experience the joy of Christmas through a simple children’s party,” says ECC CEO, Mr. John Paul Ang.

School books were also given to Sitio Bato Elementary School, Sapang Bulac where the native Dumagats study. “We are so thankful that a company like Eagle Cement Corporation goes out of its way to reach our remote area to give assistance to our school. Though the project has not been started yet, I would like to thank the company for the three-classroom building that they will donate to the school. This is a big help as the school lacks decent classrooms,” says Mrs. Maricel Santiago, School Principal.

In the latter part of the program, the ECC Community Scholars donated 10 sacks of rice for the Dumagat Families. “We also want to teach our scholars the value of sharing to the less privileged like them. We believe that no matter how poor one could be, they can still help in some other things,” says Engr. Medel L. Justiniano, Mining and Sustainability Manager of ECC. The scholars voluntarily contributed a small amount of money from their allowance to buy rice for the Dumagats. ECC has 72 community scholars who are being provided with financial assistance for their schooling. This is part of the Social Development and Management Program of the company.

Eagle Cement Corporation (ECC) is a 100% Filipino owned cement manufacturing company with plant in Brgy. Akle, San, Ildefonso, Bulacan.
